Disclaimer: Please be aware that all staff members listed are possible staff hires for the 2006 summer camp session and are not confirmed unless otherwise indicated. As coaches are busy, have families, and things come up last minute some times, some of these coaches may not be able to attend.

ASSISTANT DIRECTORS

RICK ZOERNER

In his 16 years at Great Western, Rick is a former All-New England defensive midfielder out of the University of Massachusetts. His coaching career was spent at Poway High School where he led the defensive charge for a State Championship in 1996. His attitude for lacrosse is unmatched and this attitude rubs off on anyone who come in contact with him during camp. His strengths lie in defensive fundamentals and works with the average players at camp to help them break through into the starring roles. He is currently the Field Director for Division 1 at camp and is the 2nd in command of the entire camp. RoseyNz.jpg (84212 bytes)

Rick is someone that plans his whole summer around the week of summer camp because he loves to teach the sport and can't wait to see the improvement of the players he taught the previous summer who return for another session of fun. He is a permanent member of the Great Western family.                                Rosey on the left, Rick on the right.

MATT ROSENBERG

In his 11th year at Great Western, Matt is currently the Head Coach at La Jolla High School, a Division 1 team in San Diego. He will be the Field Director for Division 2 at camp this summer. He spends his fall helping to run the Great Western Indoor High School Lacrosse League. He played his collegiate lacrosse at Trinity University in Connecticut. He is extremely valuable to our camp because he works very hard to increase the confidence of many beginning campers through positive feedback and simple teaching methods. He specializes in beginning defensive concepts for young players and is the Camp Champ on the ping pong table each summer. To top things off, he is one of the original Great Western campers! He is also a permanent member of the Great Western family.

DIVISION ONE - FIELD DIRECTOR
DAVID LONG

Dave Long is in his 8th year at Great Western. He hails from Salt Lake City, Utah, Where he is the Defensive Coordinator for the powerhouse, Juan Diego Catholic High School Team. He is instrumental in making our Division 1 competitive as well as informative. He is the master at keeping the sessions on schedule and utilizing the practice time so the players get optimal instruction and success. He is also the perennial Head Coach of the Division 1 & Division 2 All-Star Teams when they play the Staff. He is extremely valuable to the players of Great Western and he is a permanent member of the Great Western Family.

DIVISION TWO - FIELD DIRECTOR
TOM SUMMERS
Tom Summers played his collegiate lacrosse at Randolph-Macon College. He was a perennial All-star for the Malibu Lacrosse Club, the Los Angeles Lacrosse Club and the Crease Monkeys Masters Lacrosse Club. He is currently the head Coach for the Crease Monkeys Junior team in Salt Lake City, Utah and runs the huge Park City Youth Lacrosse Fesitval each Spring. He is in charge of running the fields for Division 2 at the Great Western Camp. This will be his third year with us and he is officially one of the family.


SHOOTING CAMP DIRECTOR
Mike Allan
Mike played his college lacrosse at Princeton University where he was a national Championship attackman. He is the current Head Coach at U.C. Santa Barbara where he won the National Championship. He is also the Offensive Coordinator for the Los Angeles Riptide Professional Team. Mike is a great teacher of the game and will inevitably make the Shooting Camp at Great Western the best place to learn the art of shooting. This will be his seventh year at GW and are lucky to have him teaching our shooters.

GOALIE CAMP DIRECTOR
Dominic Gomez
Dominic was a former 6 year attendee of the Great Western Camp. He is now in his 6th year as a staff member and has moved into the Goalie Camp Director. He played his college lacrosse at Sonoma State where he posted record numbers in the save department. Was selected to the all-WCLL team several times. He was an assistant coach at Cathedral Catholic HS in San Diego and Sonoma State University. He is currently in his first year as the Head Coach at Sonoma State where he led his team to a final four appearance in the WCLL Championships.

SENIOR STAFF MEMBERS
CLIFF PRAUSA
 Cliff is in his 5th year at Great Western. Cliff played his collegiate lacrosse at SDSU with Director, Russ Olsen, and has remained friends ever since. He has been out of lacrosse for several years but has recently started coaching youth lacrosse in the Phoenix area and has become possessed with the game once again. He was instrumental last year in handling the direction of Division 2 and will be back at the reigns again this year. He is a member of the SDSU Lacrosse Hall of Fame and to bring quality instruction and direction to the Great Western Family.

ED McCARTHY
eddiemac.gif (68286 bytes)Eddie is the former Assistant Coach at the St. Paul's School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he teaches English. He was formerly the Defensive Coach at powerful Newton North HS in Massachusetts, where he helped the program to three State Championships. He is one of the best lacrosse minds in the game and his real strengths lie in his ability to relate to young people and keep there attention through levity and quality teaching strategies. He has his own teaching styles that make it impossible for young lacrosse players to fail. He is the most valuable coach our camp can ever have and we are very privileged to have him on board at Great Western. He spends most of his time working with the younger student athletes. He recently has his first son.

MASON GOODHAND
Mason2.gif (53180 bytes)Mason is the founder and driving force of Utah Youth Lacrosse. He played his collegiate lacrosse with Air Force and has been playing club lacrosse ever since. He has had various coaching jobs. He was the former assistant coach at Air force, the former Head Coach at Sacramento State University and is currently coaching at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is currently the Head Coach at Westmister College in Utah where he led his team to the National Division 2 MDIA Title. Mason has a passion for teaching lacrosse like no other. He has so much knowledge of the game and he can't wait to share it with anyone and everyone. He is awesome with younger players and explains the game to them in terms they can easily understand and retain. He is currently a representative on the board of United States Lacrosse representing the west. He can be found attended numerous lacrosse tournaments around the country with youth teams from Utah. Mason is an 8 year veteran of the Great Western Lacrosse family and he is always welcome in San Diego.

SCOTT WITKINS

Scott played his college lacrosse at the University of California at Santa Barbara where is dominated the face-off position. He is our camp face-off specialist. He spent a few years coaching at the NCAA Division 1 level at Gannon University. He has played Professional Indoor lacrosse in Canada and has an enthusiasm for teaching the game of lacrosse. He is currently a teacher at Downey HS in Los Angeles where he started their lacrosse program and is the current Head Coach. He can be sought for private lacrosse lessons through Great Western Lacrosse. This will be Scott's 7th year at Great Western and he plans to be back each and every year.

  POSITIONAL SPECIALISTS

LARRY NOBLE - ATTACK

Larry is the Head Coach of the Mountain Pointe HS Varsity in Phoenix, Arizona where is is a perennial play-off contender. He has produced many athletes that have gone on to play collegiate lacrosse. His specialty lies with teaching the younger players. If you want to learn from the best, you have to come see Larry at the Great Western Lacrosse Camp.

DANNY METOYER - ATTACK

Danny is the Head Coach at Serra HS in San Diego. He is currently the all-time leading scorer out of Chapman University where he set many scoring records in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League. He was a member of the 1998 HS Stste Championship Team at Serra HS and will be working with players, honing there shooting skills while at camp.

DAX HARRISON - MIDFIELD

Dax played his HS lacrosse at the powerful Torrey Pines HS in San Diego and went on to be a formidable face-off midfielder for Whittier College. His team made it to two NCAA Division 3 Tournaments. He will be teaching our camp how to successfully face-off. He is currently the Assistant Coach at perrenial powerhouse, Torrey Pines HS. He is a new addition to the Great Western family and will undoubtedly help to keep our camp the best camp in the west!

MATT SMITH - DEFENSE

Matt played his college ball at the University of San Diego where he became the coach following his graduation. He coach USD for 10 seasons bringing his team to the play-offs several times. He has coached at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego then on to becoming the Director of Coaching with the Scripps Ranch MS program. He is also a certified referee for CIF in San Diego County. He is a very enthusiastic coach and this is his fourth year at Great Western and is here to stay. 

ADAM WIRTZ - DEFENSE

Adam currently plays long stick midfield for Arizona State University. He started as a camper at Great Western and is entering his 7th year as a Camp Coach. He is an assistant coach at Mountain Pointe HS in the Phoenix area. He is great with the kids, a wizard of a stick stringer and has unmatched energy that rubs off onto many of the players who attend.
